Simple card administration

Easily add or remove access tokens without the need for complex software. Standalone systems use enrolment and shadow cards for quick, secure, and intuitive card management at the door.

Total door security without compromise

With all logic stored safely on the secure side of the door, systems like Switch2 offer greater protection against tampering—keeping your premises, users, and assets safe at all times.

Adaptable access with reader options

Paxton’s standalone control units work with multiple reader types—including proximity, magstripe, and keypad—giving you the flexibility to tailor access control to your preferred method.

Cost saving with no software required

Standalone systems don’t require a PC or software to operate, saving on setup and maintenance. Ideal for budget-conscious sites looking for dependable, long-term security solutions.

Next-gen site security

Understanding standalone access control systems

A standalone access control system secures doors without needing a network, PC, or complex software. Each door works independently, with user access managed directly at the reader or control unit. Ideal for smaller sites and growing businesses, it offers a cost-effective, low-maintenance solution that’s easy to install, expand, and manage.

Simple access control

Users present a token to unlock the door—no passwords, no delays. Everything is stored locally, making it fast, reliable, and safe for everyday use.

Ideal for smaller sites

Standalone systems are perfect for offices, workshops, schools, or storage areas where full networked control isn’t required or cost-effective.

Why choose standalone

Benefits of standalone access control solutions

Standalone systems offer a practical solution for securing specific doors or small sites. They’re quick to install, easy to manage, and cost-effective to maintain. With no network or software required, they reduce setup time and IT dependency—making them ideal for businesses seeking a secure, low-complexity access solution.

Fast, simple installation

No servers or cabling between doors means you can be up and running quickly—with minimal disruption to your site or business operations.

Low cost of ownership

With no software licences or ongoing fees, standalone systems are an affordable, long-term investment for access control and security.

Minimal setup, maximum control

Standalone access control is usually one or two small units wired directly onto a door panel to control access to the door. There is no need for a PC network and you don’t have to secure every single door within your building, only those you wish to.

Secure entry with smart tokens

How standalone access control systems operate

Staff and visitors are issued with electronic tokens instead of keys. When users present tokens to readers, the control unit instantly verifies access permissions and unlocks doors for authorised personnel. If someone loses their token, it can be simply barred using a shadow card. This ensures lost tokens cannot compromise your building security.

Electronic token access

Replace traditional keys with secure electronic tokens. Cards and fobs provide reliable identification that cannot be duplicated like physical keys.

Shadow card security

Instantly bar lost tokens using shadow cards presented to any reader. Compromised access is eliminated immediately without system downtime.

Smart business choice

Why standalone systems are ideal for businesses

Standalone access control delivers instant security upgrades without the need for complex setup or maintenance. With options like Compact and Switch2, you can secure key areas quickly, then scale as needed. These flexible systems combine reliability, low overheads, and professional-grade protection—making them ideal for growing businesses.

Future-proof security

Invest in door security that grows with your business. Add more doors over time without replacing existing systems or costly infrastructure upgrades.

Operational efficiency

Eliminate key cutting, lock changes, and security breaches from lost keys. Streamline access management and reduce administrative overhead.

Get the most from standalone systems

Smarter control with standalone access solutions

Standalone access control offers simple, scalable protection without the need for complex infrastructure or expensive software. Easy to install and manage, it’s ideal for smaller sites looking to secure key areas. With token-based entry and no PC required, it delivers reliable, long-term security with minimal maintenance.

Managing entry with standalone systems

Standalone systems secure doors using a reader and control unit installed at each door. They’re ideal for smaller sites, offering simple and scalable access control without a network or PC. The diagram shows how presenting a valid token sends a signal to the control unit, unlocking the door. Tokens are issued using enrolment cards, and lost tokens can be quickly removed with a shadow card—ensuring continued site security with minimal effort.

Managing user access with clear permissions

Standalone systems allow different user types to access specific areas based on simple token permissions. In the diagram, a leisure centre is secured using colour-coded tokens—green for members, amber for admin staff, and red for full access. Tokens are issued and managed locally with no software or network required. Each reader checks permissions at the door, allowing only authorised users to access their approved spaces securely.

Flexible options to suit every door

Standalone systems that easily adapt to your business

Whether you need wired, wireless, or video-based access control, Paxton’s standalone systems offer a wide range of solutions to match your building layout and evolving security needs. From internal rooms to main entrances, choose the right setup for every area—while keeping everything simple to install and effortless to manage.

Switch2

Switch2 is a standalone system with a separate reader and control unit, ideal for securing selected doors. Staff use tokens instead of keys, and lost tokens can be instantly blocked using a shadow card—offering quick, secure access control without a network.

Compact

Compact combines the reader and controller in one unit, ideal for securing internal doors. Quick to install with simple wiring, it uses electronic tokens for access. Lost tokens can be blocked instantly using a shadow card, maintaining security with ease.

PaxLock

Wireless access control is a great way to secure a system quickly and with minimal disruption. The PaxLock range can be installed as part of a networked system or standalone for sites that do not require extra functionality. PaxLock can be installed on internal or external doors.

Entry Systems

Door entry allows you to recognise a visitor calling at the main entrance before granting them access to your building. Our door entry system is simple and comprises three components: external panel, door control unit and internal monitor.

Flexible entry control for any site

Choose the right entry mode for your business

Entry systems can be configured in three distinct ways: Standalone, Net2, or Paxton10—each offering varying features, functionality, and scalability. Whether you require basic access to a few doors or an advanced networked setup, there’s a system to suit your site.

Standalone - Non-networked

Standalone systems control individual doors without needing a PC, server, or network.

Standalone systems operate independently at the door, requiring no network or central PC. They’re ideal for smaller sites needing a quick, effective solution with minimal hardware. Each door includes a panel, control unit, monitor, and token-based access. Programming is done locally at the panel, making setup and maintenance fast and simple. The Paxton Entry app can also be used for mobile call handling, provided the external panel is connected to an internet-enabled network for remote access.

Net2 - Networked

Net2 allows centralised access control with software installed on your office PC.

Net2 offers a networked access control system managed via a central PC. It connects panels, monitors, and controllers across your site, enabling remote management, reporting, and third-party system integration. This centralised platform allows for efficient control of Entry points and user activity. Paxton Entry app users can respond to Entry panel calls from their smart devices, either in addition to or instead of a monitor, ensuring full flexibility from anywhere with internet access.

Paxton10 - Networked

Paxton10 provides remote access control using cloud-based software from anywhere.

Paxton10 delivers advanced networked access control and video management in one unified system. All Entry hardware—including panels and monitors—connects to the Paxton10 platform, providing secure control from any internet-enabled location. The system includes Bluetooth credentials for mobile access and supports flexible site management. With standard hardware and the free Paxton Entry app, users can answer Entry calls on smart devices and manage doors easily, with full visibility and control at scale.
